Mberikwazvo Vocalist Barnabas Mandipota Reportedly Dies
The Zimbabwean music industry is in mourning following reports of the untimely death of Barnabas Mandipota, a longtime vocalist and instrumentalist with Orchestra Mberikwazvo.
Mandipota, affectionately known to fans as “Barna,” was a dedicated member of the group led by sungura legend Alick Macheso. According to information circulating within the music fraternity, he had recently complained of a toothache during one of the band’s performances before his reported passing.
News of his death began circulating after it was shared by the band’s cameraman and social media manager, Hudson Mabona, through internal communication channels and social media platforms. However, by the time of publication, an official statement from the band’s leadership or Mandipota’s family had not yet been issued.
Mandipota was widely respected within Mberikwazvo circles for his vocal talent, instrumental skills, and strong stage presence. Over the years, he played a key role in shaping the group’s signature sound, which has helped keep sungura music at the forefront of Zimbabwe’s music scene.
